While we have an attic for storage; it’s not easy or even safe to be moving bins up and down a fold down ladder. I was nervous I would fall and wanted storage that was easily accessible. Enter DIY wood shelves and plastic bins.

Why Have Organized Storage?

When the holidays come to an end it’s essential to have a good place to store all the decor. Many people like to do winter organizing after the holidays and then pivot into spring cleaning.

Organized storage isn’t just about making a space look tidy – although that is a plus. It is about creating a system that saves you time and reduces stress. When every item has a designated home, you spend less time searching for things and more time working on your project and home.

How to Maximize Vertical Storage Space

One of the biggest benefits of these black and yellow storage bins; they are stackable. However, stacking them too high can make them difficult to access and that’s why you need shelving.

Storing bins vertically frees up floor space and ensures every container is easy to reach. label the sides and tops so you always know where everything is, no matter how they are arranged.

Black-and-Yellow Bins

While I’ve purchased several storage bins over the years; my favorite by far have been these black-and-yellow plastic storage bins. These have now become a staple in our organization goals. They are durable, affordable and versatile. Their uniform makes stacking easy and the secure yellow lids keep dust and moisture out.

These come in a variety of sizes, but for our DIY wood shelves we are using the 27-gallon bins. They slide on the rack with ease and hold a large amount of items.

There are even green and red 27-gallon storage totes for your holiday decor making it easy to know which bins to grab from the shelves when it’s time to deck the halls.
